Webster County HS students learn firearm safety

 

Students from Webster County High School took part in a field shooting day at Crab Orchard Gun Club.

These students are part of a two-week agricultural and hunting safety class featured at Webster High School. The purpose of the field shoot is to promote firearms safety and educate the students on how to properly handle guns.

U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01) today announced that Sarah Bickett, a senior at Union County High School has been named the winner of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition and two other UCHS students also fared well in the competition.

Bickett’s artwork will now be on display in an area of the Washington, D.C. Capitol complex known as the Cannon Tunnel - a walkway connecting the House office buildings with the U.S. Capitol and Capitol Visitors Center.  Members of Congress, congressional staff and countless visitors travel this corridor daily, enabling Bickett’s artwork to be viewed by a truly nationwide audience.

Fast track GED class in Morganfield starts next week

Fast track GED class in Morganfield starts next week

 

Henderson Community College Adult Education Program is offering a Fast-Track GED class at the Herron Center in Morganfield beginning April 30  through May 30. 

Classes are every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. 

Students who pass the test will be eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony on June 11 at Henderson Community College.

Morganfield Elementary wins wrestling title

After four weeks of competition, the Morganfield Elementary Wildcats captured the district-wide wrestling tournament.

The final was held on Sunday with about 150 grapplers taking to the mat.

Elementary dancers to show their skills this Saturday night

Forty-five students from all three elementary schools in Union County will be featured in a dance concert scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. in the UCHS auditorium.

The students auditioned at the beginning of January with instructor Mark Lamb and have been rehearsing for ten weeks.  They will perofrm an energetic display and combination of dance techniques.

The concert will include group dance, girls dance and an all-boys action hero sequence.

 

New school expected to be ready by 2014-15

New school expected to be ready by 2014-15

Students, faculty, and church officials from St. Anne's broke ground on Friday in Morganfield, on the new school.

The new school will be named 'John Paul II Catholic School' and it will replace the 100-year-old St. Anne's Catholic school.

Principle Beth Hendrickson says the current building is deteriorating and will be torn down once the new school is complete.
